22re jumping time

ok i know my engine was knocking and im kinda hoping maby it just jumped time rather than spun a bearing.. if the chan was worn out enough and possibly jumped a tooth or even two how far before i a valve got crunched? i did not break the chain and the truck did run but it had a knock that sounded like predetonation . i pulled the oil pan and valve cover and on the top i saw the chan had hella slop and could have possibly jumped time. the rockers and stuff up top looks good as wel las the bottom end i need to pull the bearing caps and plastigauge them to see if its bottom end but i belive that since i found no metal at all in the oil pan and almost all of the chain guide in there it may have jumped time. the truck did not give the oil light and it did not like to keep idle and at idle it did not knock untill about 1500 rpm or so and had absolutley no power. what do you guys think. i have the timing kit and i think after i check the bearing clearance ,if ok,ill go ahead and try the new chain and see what happens. if its still shitty pull the head and get a new one. any input is appreciated .tia

Hey Trips, like Fredk said, check to make sure it's in time by putting the crank pulley @ 0 degrees, then check the cam gear and look for the "dot". It should be at the very top-centered.
If you have alot of slop in the chain, it's finished. Either the tensioner broke or the guides broke. It's time to do a timing chain replacement, before the chain cuts a hole through the cover and wipes out the engine. There's a guy on Ebay that sells timing kits with the steel driver's side guide for around $55 or so. He goes by the name Engnbldr or something like that. I got one of his kits and it was well stocked with whatever I needed.
I would stop driving the vehicle till it can be fixed. Have you priced 22re longblocks lately??
As far as bending valves, I don't know if the engine is an "interference fit" engine, so I can't answer that. It's definately time to park it though.....

well i already had a kit from the other guy on ebay and its a good kit put it in and fired it up and had a rod knocking. i already found a used engine from a guy that is putting a small block in his . i heard it run it runs good and smooth hes letting me have the whole engine and ecu for 200 bux i left him 50 bux to hold it. i figured even if its blown its worth that. definatly a good price. as far as the engine goes i think ill pull it out this weekend tear it down and get a new crank ,head and rebuild kit have it machined and start from scratch. anybody know decent prices for a reuild kit i saw a topline kit for 300 and a crankshaft for 230 . is topline good ive heard they are very good .thanx guys .
