1989 22RE Motor Swap

I'm replacing a stock 22RE in a '89 p/u with another used 22RE from a dismantler. What other years are completely identical as far as accessory plugs electrical etc... I don't want to have to splice into wiring or have to change anything around.

All of the 22re's will work with each other, all of them use the same harness but there are lots of things different. I have 3 22re's from 89 4runners right now and none are identical...one is missing a plate that goes on the rocker cover with vacuum lines, one has a slightly different intake and one has different emmissions stuff...and all of these trucks were from canada (one from the west coast, possibly higher altitude). so to make a long story short...all of your plugs will plug in to any 22re from 85-95, but you may find the motor has something yours doesnt or you may have to take something off of yours and put it on the new one. hope that was of help

Thanks someone. Hopefully I don't find too many things different.

In'89 the pick-up body style changed and with that the wiring harness too.The 4Runner didn't change until '90 and the generation ran thru'95.Most shops use your old harness and manifolds when doing swaps and change all the necessary gaskets.
