When changing the head gasket. Should the blue side of the gasket face the head or block? What can happend if you put the gasket on the wrong side? This is on a 22r

I thought mine was blue on BOTH sides! I am taking a guess and thinking you are asking before you have even removed the head.?

When the head is off, it should be obvious. A trial fit of the HG onto the block should reveal whether all the holes for the bolts/coolant/oil line up. The surface of the head is by no means a mirror image. I think there is a large ring-size hole in the gasket at the rear that puts all question to rest.
