I just picked up an 84 xtra cab (solid axle) as a future trail toy (when time and money permit). One of the automatic hubs isn't engaging. The previous owner took it apart and got it engaged somehow, but now it won't disengage. I haven't looked at it yet to see what the problem could be, but I have an 88 4runner (IFS) as a parts truck for my daily driver. Are the manual hubs from the 88 IFS interchangeable with the automatic ones on the 84 solid axle?
