Hood Scoop Yes/No?

Hey, guys.
I am on the market for 05 Taco. And I have set my mind on what I want: 05 Access Cab 4X2 4cyl 5 speed SR2, but still desiding weather I should or should not get thetruck with hood scoop.
I haven't seen anyone yet making scoop functional. I don't know the advantages on it other than looks. Of course I realy like the look of scoop, but I don't want to pay extra $$$ for something that will be totaly useless. (Extra warranty would be better).

Also I thought that if there is a real advantage of this scoop when it is functional, than I would be willing to spend some time with alum or other metal matherial to create somekind of airdum to make scoop functional. But I would like to know if there will be any gains from it and the MAIN concern is WATER. I live in Seattle and rain is regular as sun in Arizona, so I would like to see if I would go for making the scoop functional, how can I stop water from getting to intake (I don't want my filter to be wet at all the time.)

So if someone can help me with it, I would be realy apriciated.
THank
Paul

Well, first off, I'm pretty sure you can't get the hood scoop with the 4cyl from the factory, but possibly as a modification from the dealer. Second, it's not fuctional to start out, it's all looks. You could cut out the hole, but that really wouldn't do much since the intake isn't anywhere near the hood. But hell, if someone has an idea and any pros/cons about cuttin' the hood scoop out, and allowing air to come in, let me know too.

tomcat if you look under the scoop of your syou will notice a lot of screws, and if you take those out you will have a functional scoop, however its pointless unless you need more air (for one reason or another) but it does look good.

I tmight keep the engine compartment cooler by a minimal amount though Im sure. Other than that I dont think id go that route because it would just make the engine compartment a mess all the time. Constantly having water, salt, dirt and bugs flowing through there all the time. In my chevy truck with a cowl hood I cant believe how many bugs make it between the grill and hood edge and end up smeared all over the underside of the hood. That's one nice thing I notice Toyota has is the nice trim piece of rubber that seals that edge from having stuff blow in there.

Thye hood scoop is pretty much useless and some people complain how it blocks some of the visibility. Also I've heard of people who have had open hood scoops and the pressure would cause the hood to warp.

BTW the only way you can get the hood scoop is with the trd sport package or the X-Runner. Both of which require it to have the V6 engine.

Thanks for head ups.

PS
If I would've gotten the scoop, my dad is very good with metal and other matherials, so I'm sure that I would some up with some kind of kit.

Just for looks to make functional will cost a pretty penny
