PreRunner owners: a question

I don't really understand the concept of the PreRunner. Is this just for people who want to own a truck, but don't want to own one that looks like the regular 2WD? The 2WD's were looking a little squirrely for a couple years, there, so I guess I understand that. How much extra do these cost? Is it worth it?

The whole idea has me confused. Is it basically just for looks?

The prerunners are built off the 4x4 chassis, using the same suspension/hubs/brakes. All heavy duty stuff. If you want to pull something heavy the prerunner is going to be better suited to pull it then the reg height tacoma. Also if you want a v6 you have to get the prerunner(or an Srunner or Xrunner )

The prerunners although not 4wd are very capable off road and it's the perfect truck for those that rarely ever need 4x4 but go offroad once in a while. Also you save on gas and insurance costs, as well as maintenance and service.

Thanks for clearing that up. I had never thought about them as an option, but you make good points. Glad to hear it's not JUST for looks but has some practicality behind it.

It's also good to sit higher up than most cars and get a better view of traffic as well.

Yep. Good point. That's why I'm getting a truck in the first place--I hadn't really thought of a PreRunner though and am going to get the truck tomorrow. That, of course, is provided that I get in it and it drives great. Humanoid-you're signature mentions the Star-Patterned Wheels--are they the ones that 2Tacomas has on his green 2004?

Hopefully, if everything goes OK, this will be my new truck after this weekend. I wasn't crazy about the color at first, but its growing on me.
