I have a '96 Tacoma, V6, 5 sp, 4WD, Ext Cab.. I'm up to approx 225,000km's (140,000 miles). Oil's been changed every 5000kms (3000 miles), most maintenance has been kept up to date. Probably 80% of miles have been highway, remainder on secondry roads. No serious off-roading or anything. Slight hint of rust developing around the outer edges of wheel wells, I believe from the trim rings that probably have been trapping moisture, dirt, etc for all these years, but for most part the truck has been kept clean. A few light scratches here and there, it is ready for a paint job, or at least some touching up. It's been rust proofed and under coated several times throughout it's life with "Rust Check" product, a product thats popular in Canada.
Anyways, my question is, how much longer could I expect to get out of this truck, assumming I continue using it as an everyday vehicle, and take care of it as I have been....? The truck has been great, nothng to complain about, tranny, clutch, steering, etc is still tight. Anything I should be prepared for with the upcoming miles?
At the dealership i work at, I regularly service a 96 4wd x-cab with 190,000.the owner tows a 30' trailer/boat combo in and around several bad roads around the area, and boat ramps for launching ect....I talked to the guy,and he has put two sets of front brakes, and a clutch in it,otherwise reg.maintence.Truck looks a little beat, due to neglect, but no rust throughs, and it runs great. If you take care of your rig,it will take care of you

I had just under 190,000 miles on my 1988 Toyota P/U (4wd, 3.0L v6) w/ no major problems at all and it was still running great up until the day I got broadsided and it was totaled (last year). I recommend that you have the timing belt and water pump changed out (if you haven't already done so; I changed mine out at 145,000 miles) and other than that, just keep up the good basic maintenance and you should be able to get at least another 100,000 miles out of her- probably more. If it hasn't given you any problems yet, that is a great sign that what you are doing is working good... I haven't found too many posts on higher mileage w/ the 3.4L v6- I think I might start a new thread to find out who has the most miles on their 3.4L

I have a 96 Tacoma Ext Cab, 6 cyl, auto, 2 wd with 560,000 miles and still runs good. I love that truck.. I call it" Ol Faithful". I just did normal maintenance, not exactly at the perfect mileage requirements, but it got done and it has lasted this long. It amazes everyone how well it still runs with such high mileage. So...do I hold the record or what? LOL!

WV's,Honda and Toyotas in my opinion have very fuel efficient and reliable engines that allow high mileage to be obtained easily with routine maintenance along with using their recommended low silicates radiator coolant,anti-drain back valve oil filters and LUCK. In my opinion Toyota V6's are not as good as their legendary R series engines like the 18R, 20R and 22R series, the problems I have with the V6 engines used in the 4-Runners and pickups is headgasket and oil sludge problems there is a recall but Toyota instead for "politically correct reasons" chooses to call it a "service adjustment or campaign":
The above links don't include the 3VZE engine sused in the 1988-95 4-Runners and trucks.I believe if the back frame and fenders are still good years down the road you should be able to put 1 million KM's yes that right.

In KS I think I hold the record... 452,000 too lazy to go out and check the actual mileage... on my 94 toyota ext 4wd and now one with 700,000 miles... well I knew I was not wrong in bragging about these trucks! My banker even went out and bought a toyota camry after seeing how well my truck performed... last time I spoke with him he said his wife wanted to trade it in as it had 100,000 miles and he kept thinking...it has to have more life in it .... hahahaha Everyone has asked why I haven't traded it in or bought another one... well with regular maintenance, and lifetime replacement parts I ask why would I! Sidney I am working on that million milestone before I die! Oh and it is still the original transmission...had the gasket replacement recall done... and a couple clutches... It is a work horse, I have hauled tons of hay trailers over the years and it has gotten me down some nasty winter mud roads to care for my horses never once thinking it wouldn't make it ... I'm in love with my truck! hahaha
