Who has the most mileage out of their 3.4L v6?

Hello,

I have heard and read a lot about how great the older Toyota engines are, and I know from my 1988 Toyota P/U that had the old 3.0L v6 in that you can get a hell of a lot of miles out of them; but I have only read a few posts about higher mileage on the 3.4L v6 that came out in the 1995 & 1/2 model year. Just curious b/c I want to know if the 3.4L in my current truck will be as reliable as the 3.0L that was in my other Toyota P/U.

As mentioned in my previous thread, I have over 140,000 miles on mine in Canada, no garage for most of those, just alot of sub zero starts in the winter time, and hot starts in the summer.

The 3.4 is a good eng., supposedly better than the 3.0 insofar as better hp ratings and less problems with headgasket issues. I like my 3.4, but dont really like the truck itself too much.I live in an area thats on rhe oregon coast, just outside the oregon national dunes off road area, and alot of mountain roads.Working at a dealership,I see alot of trucks that get really used and abused. My own truck needs new rear springs bad, fatiuge from towing and off roading shows quick on these trucks, along with tie rod ends, clutches, axle seals, therefore brakes(keep an eye out for this).all in all though, the tacoma is a good rig, and with proper maintence, will last for quite a while and is far superior than say....an s-10 or ranger

I know my 1988 P/U was bullet proof- a lot of folks had problems w/ the early 3.0L v6, but mine never gave me any problems at all. I got just under 190,000 miles out of her and she was still going strong when she got totalled (last year). I know the 3.4L has only been around for about 10 years, so probably not too many people have racked up over 150,000 miles. I just hope my 2004 Tacoma will be as reliable and trouble free as my 1988 P/U. Here is a pic of my 1988 (in her former glory).
