starter relay on 87 22RE 2wd pickup ?

hi, is there a starter relay on an 87 22re 2wd pickup (with auto trans) ?

this truck some mornings has a delay when you go to crank over the engine, sometimes when you turn key and hold it all way to start it it will do nothing but click once. and then a couple seconds later will crank over and start up, cranks and starts up fine otherwise

if there is a relay then where is it located ?

thanks for anything!

neat, yeah my covers are removed i see relays out in open in my cab, well at least the tranny converter lockup one anyways, hmm..

its almost like the ignition switch is not connecting circuit to relay or something, maybe its gummed up inside ?

if you remember how you fixed this then lemme know asap fastrrandy on yahoo messenger or fastr68@yahoo.com

thanks

Hey Fast68, i think the starter relay that ttownjoeshow was referring to is called the Circiut Opening Relay.
You mentioned a tranny converter lockup relay? Where is that located?

the lockup rel;ay is driver side kick panel, behind it, blue relay

i notic when truck is cold on frozen days it will not go into final gear and lockup for quite a while, it delays alot, but on warmer days its fine

truck is just plain worn out, everything barely works, but it still runs drives,

brakes barely mamking it, exhaust is trash, the slow trans lockup, starter needing solenoid contacts, one of the u joints went out it was toasted sloppy fried, and trans rear output seal blew one day,

the brakes scare me, the rear adjusters keep freezing causing rear shoes to not come out and makes pedal go lower and lower over time, and the front hoses and all the lines on the frame look horrible, the rotors are badly worn on inside face

and the idler arm is sloppy worn loose

im just gonna run it til it dies

runs good though, i have a feeling the chassis will go first,

the engine might survive if the chain guides and chain dont go, its getting pretty noisy.,

its in about the same shape as an old beater 70s chevy truck is in at 127k miles

maybe worse,.

i may not even get to the starter solenoid fix,
oh and the fuel guage doesnt work, the sender unit is dead

ive got a pic or two somewhere of the truck i could scan hehe

thanks

A friend of mine just cleaned up the contacts and the plunger on my 91 Prizm starter and that solved it for me. No parts needed.

The control on some trannies is different until engine at certain temp.

I do not see that relay for a tranny lockup and have never heard of it either. Below the fuse box I have 3 relays (flasher, EFI, and i forget what else). They are all labeled and none say anything about a tranny lockup.
