Should I get another engine?

Hi,
I have a 1995 SR5 4 Runner with the 3Lv6 engine. It has 156,ooo miles on the motor.I bougth it when it had 118,000 miles on it.last fall the head gasket started leaking.I have since driven my truck another 7,000 miles using a "gasket sealant" that you add to the coolant.(I know I don`t believe in this stuff either, but it worked,at least temporarily.) Now the gasket is acting up again and its time to get things done right. The truck is in very good shape otherwise but being 10 years old with this many miles on the enginemy question is this.Do you think it is worth spending about $2,000 on a head gasket job or should I have another engine put into it?My understanding is it is around the same amount of labor time to install another motor as to do the head gaskets.
Also does anyone know if it is true that you can buy a reasonably priced used toyota motor that has been imported from Japan?I`m just weighing my options if I don`t just trade it in.
Thanks for listening,
Danny

If you are willing to spend that kind of ching on a head gasket job, why not go the extra mile and get the motor rebuilt with some additional hp and put it back in. I know of a shop here in Vt that will do a 22r rebuild with a 30% hp increase for about 2000$, then you just have the labor of putting it back in, which depending on what kind of shop it is could cost more or less than its worth.

To replace the head gasket on my Tacoma - only cost about $400.00 - so why would it cost you $2000? Also the rebuilt engines are cheap and work fine - I did it for my Camry - engine where only about $2,000 at that time. My mechanic says the Tacoma engine should last up to 400,000 miles - it's about 130,000 now.

Hi,
My 1988 4 Runner with a 22RE cost about $400-600 for a head gasket job.But apparently the V6 takes about 19 hours labor to do the head job.At least thats what I have been told. The price quotes that i have gotten were around $1700 at a small service station to $2000 at a Toyota dealer!

I was wondering, on a side note, can the stock Toyota transmission and rear end take a coversion from a 4 cyl to a yota six cyl, ive heard its doeable. Because, i want more hp without lots of fancy shit to slap on the eng.
