I am buying a 93 T-100 next week and the guy that owned it let his teenage son drive it for 8 months; the seat is all torn up and it stinks like a cheap motel inside. I want to take out the carpet and put in a seat but i don't know where i can find a seat. I tried Jc Whitney..I guess i will have to try some junk yards..just not that many here..i just i hope i can get the smell out..it really sticks to your clothes. Also does anyone know what i should look for other than basics on mechanical problems I have to drive two hours to another town and my time is short. how can i tell if the timing chain has been done without a receipt?

Reason: forgot something
This sound like a good opportunity to replace the seat with a good pair of buckets, probably out of another vehicle. Let us know what you decide. I want to do the same with mine.
If it is a V6, it has a timing belt. Don't know about the 2.7 liter 4-banger, which was offered in the 2WD version. Don't know how to tell if the belt was changed recently, either.
i need to keep the bench seat so i can fit my daughter in as well....i am a little nervous purchasing this truck but i used to own a toyota supra and it was great...i just don't know 187000 is a lot of miles
Is it a V6 or a 4Cyl? There are some junkyards that are out west(California I think). If you do an internet search you should be able to find them. I rememeber seeing a few seats on one of the web sites. If I can find it I will post a link. I own a 93 T100 with the v6. If the t100 you are looking at is a v6 see if the Timming belt has been changed. If not it is about a 500-800 dollar job depending on were you take it. If it is a V6, check inside the engine compartment. There should be a maintenance sticker either on the timming belt cover or on the radiator. It will tell you when the belt was changed last. There may be more than one sticker if it was changed twice. Look for the most recent sticker. I have had mine for almost 7 years now and have put over 100K miles on my T100(currently has 166,000mi on it). If you run into anything unusual I most likely have already encountered it. I will try to help if I can. Good luck
thanks so much for your input i am going tomorrow to purchase the truck...i want to test drive it one more time....do you know if that timing belt is on the outside of the engine...i own a ford ranger right now and it is a serpentine belt that that i can physically inspect...just wondering if i can do the same...i know that the head gasketts have been done recently and the clutch and a starter would they have done the timing belt then? i didn't spend a whole lot of time looking at the engine last time because i had the whole family with me and they were getting impatient.....but it did seem to be running smooth but when i looked at the fan belt and had a little woble...i will have to look for that sticker for the timing belt...how often does it have to be changed? i have a honda accord and that timing chain was about 300. I found a shade tree mechanic here that all he does is toyotas....just heard on the radio that it is supposed to snow...so i don't know if i will go up.....
i don't know if i mentioned it but this truck has 182000 miles on it.....how do i check inside the engine compartment? do i need to remove a cover? has the t-100 been a good truck for you?
the timing belt is incide the motor towards the front. You cant see it from outside, you need to take the front of the motor off to access it. The engine compartment is basically the whole area under the hood. HE just wants you to inspect the motr and see how it checks out visiually.

Toyota recommends changing the belt every 60K miles. The timming belt is inside. When you look at the front of the motor there is a plastic cover that covers the upper portion of the timming belt. It should not be hard to recognize, once you see it. It is near impossible to do a visual inspection on the timming belt without some dissasembly. Just look for a maintenance sticker and ask the guy the when the last time the timming belt was changed.
The 93's did not have a whole lot of head gasket problems. If this was done it probably has been driven hard. I have not had any problems with my truck. It has been very reliable. No issues other than routine maintenance.
well i didn't buy that truck...when i went up to test drive it...i had to put gas in it which sucks he did the same thing last time...it was all over the road.. but i did find a 94 dx model here in town and the guy is asking less for it and it has 155,000 miles on it....a much better deal i am going to test drive it on saturday...are there any problems with the 94 that you know of...i thought head gaskets were a problem on a lot of the t-100's??? I don't think the timing belt has been done on this one...maybe i can negotiate price with that .... i had a timing chain done on my honda and it was only 350...
Head gaskets were not a problem in the 93 and 94 3.0L V6 T100's. The head problems were with the 95 and 96 3.4L v6 engines. I am not sure about the 97 and later models. If the timming belt on the 94 was changed at around 120,000 miles(should be changed every 60K) you will be fine until 180K. Ask the guy when he changed the timming belt last. -good luck
tr918, I think you got it backwards. Toyota changed the head gaskets as part of the general recall on my '94 3.0l T100 when it had about 50k miles on it. Have had absolutely no problems with them, though.
I don't know of any general problems with the '94s. Mine has about 130k miles. Only replacement parts have been front shocks, spark plug wires, speedometer cable and an idler pulley on the timing belt. Still on the original brakes.
