Tacomas, especially the 96-04 models are one of the best 4x4 vehicles out there, second to a jeep(better in some instances)

Check out www.ttora.com and www.customtacos.com

Yeah, they have their head up their asses! Tacos are one of the best rigs for wheeling. Advise your "friend" to take a look at the sites mentioned above and see how much he really knows!

1998-2004 TRD Offroad model Tacomas had the best ground clearance in their class: 12". That is pretty respectable for a stock compact truck, hell that is respectable for any size stock truck.

Not true... My older brother has an '04 4x4 Taco. He lives in the middle of no where.... anyway, he's a county park ranger and they were doing field rescue exercises which took some 4 wheelin' to get out to where they needed to be. He rolls up in his taco, and some dick said something like that, cause he was driving some big ass ford. The funny thing:: My brother got to the site first, and didn't get stuck once. The ford got stuck many times.

nothing too extreme. The most I've done so far was the road to my older brother's house. Uphill, and all dirt and mud with plenty of bumbs. Fun, but nothing much. I will make a run up somewhere with some people from customtacos when I get the chance off work.

to narrow?!?

If they like to stick in the mud maybe, if they wheel Johnson Valley then they may be saying it cause the guys on 44s like to drive over it, but it is more fun on 35s.

I would say on some of the trails i run at paragon my Taco (05 Quad Cab LB TRD Sport) would barley fit
XJ (Cherokees) have trouble some times.

I love to see the guys that show up with Broncos and blazers on 39s+ and have to stick to the blues and greens cause they don't fit on the fun stuff

they might as well be curb hopping at the local mall.

i wheel a TJ (wrangler) on 35 MTRs, Atlas II 3.8, 4.56s ARBs f/r, 1/4" skids everywhere, custom highsteer, Superiors in the rear and Warns in the front and I stick in the rocks mostly - mud doesn;t do it for me.

There is a reason the guys that run local meets use Zukes most of the time. Cheep, easy and fit everywhere

Go wheeling with some folks, figure out what excites you and build a rig that will work best in that environment

I would think out in cali you guys do a lot of desert and rock with steep hills and klimbs, a fule injected taco would be perfect withthe longer wb and the strong axles

Also, I am of the belief you lift a jeep as little as possible to fit the tires that will give you the clearance required at your diffs.

And yes - 35s can get you over just about anything this side of comp trails.

that is . I live in backwards Arkansas. hunting is very big here. we go deep into the woods. crossing mud bogs, swamps, squeezing between trees, over stumps, across creeks, up and down steep banks, in water half way up the doors coming in the cab and the of course -notorious Buckshot mud. which will cake up on just about any mud tire tread design there is.. and my '95 Taco has always gotten me back to point A. the hunters here SWEAR by them..

Any Taco owner that says that doesnt wheel outside of the Mall parking lot orv park. Taco's are bada$$.
Now if your hearing this from domestic owners then your hearing it from those that make us look bad. They take their wide wheelbased rigs up on trails they dont belong on and tear it up. Yeah it makes deeper ruts and tough on a Taco but if you know how to wheel your gonna make it just fine. Invite that person that person on a Taco run and show him up as he sits at the head of many trails pissed cuz you guys left him and continued on. Taco's kick a$$!

thats right!!! not only is the taco a capable 4 wheeler, but put someone behind the wheel who knows what they're doin' and look out. I'm not the best driver, but a little common sence, experience and respect for the land I think always gets me where i want to go..the city 4 wheelers don't know what there talkin' 'bout...

Amen to that....it is also good to find fellow hunters on this board who take their trucks well off of the beaten bath in search of bigger and better bucks.

I take my Taco all over hell and back on the Eglin Reservation near Pensacola Fl. I have gone places that these dumba$$es with the big blazers couldn't even think of! I have owned a chevy 4X4, a ford 4X4, a Jeep Wrangler, and now the Tacoma. I've had the Taco for almost two years now. None of them compare to the Taco! The only one that comes close is the Jeep. If you want something that's going to last as well as out-perform all the rest, Taco's are the only way to go. I'll never own a different brand of 4X4!
