California has those crazy gas pumps that pretty much lock into your car making a seal. The pump works on backpressure to turn it self off so there must be a clog somewhere in the system that isn't allowing the gas tank to vent to the charcoal canister. I am not sure about how the evap system works on the tacoma but you MAY BE A WINNER! Emissions controls have a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty mandated by the federal government. If you have less than 70k roll that baby into a toyota dealer and let them fix it for FREE! If not, sorry

Uh oh, I was wrong. Here is the rule:

http://www.epa.gov/obd/warranties.htm

It is 8/80, but only 3 things are covered under that 8/80

From the page:

What Are Specified Major Emission Control Components? There are three specified major emission control components, covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use on 1995 and newer vehicles:

  • Catalytic converters.
  • The electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU).
  • The onboard emissions diagnostic device or computer (OBD).
These are the only parts that are covered. Sorry.

sometimes when you are filling up your gas tank and you try to fill to the next dollar or cent, you are filling the vent line on the gas tank. it is located next to the fill neck, it is a small line, it probablie got fuel in it and you need to drain it out buy pulling it off at one end.
