Clutch adjustment

I have a 93 toyota pickup. For quite some time now the point at which the pedal has to be let out in order for the clutch to engage, has been slowly moving out away from the floor. It is now almost to the very end of its range before it will engage. The clutch itself is strong, there is no slipping. I have found a very small amount of fluid that has leaked out of one of the hydraulic hose connections, but the fluid level in the reservoir is still where it should be. I haven't been able to find any air in the line.
Any idea what might be causing this and how I can stop it.
Thanks
Shane

maybe

I really don't know but I'm in the middle of a clutch kit, pilot bearing deal, my clutch pedal was at the end before I did this job, clutch still grabbed well but didn't have a lot of room left in it. Now that I have it apart and had a tranny guy look the clutch and pressure plate and flywheel over I know that the clutch was screwed, pressure plate needs replacing and I had the flywheel ground today. If I get it back together and have some travel range in the clutch more than I had before then Ill let you know. Will have it back together by this weekend.

There is a free play adjustment you can mess with on your clutch pedal. I do not know exactly how to do this on a '93...but on my '87 there is a adjustment for the clutch master cylinder pushrod where the pedal hooks up. I haven't messed with my adjustment on mine. The engage/disengage point on mine moved farther and farther out on the pedal, as you were desribing. Finally, the clutch started to go and would slip if you tried to give it any power. Funny thing though (well, after the fact)...I was meaning to get it changed, and before I could, the truck was stolen from right outside our house....the theifs took it for a joyride and ended up getting it stuck in an baseball outfield in the mud. The couldn't get out because of the bad clutch....lucky for me all they stole were some POS 6x9 speakers...maybe sometimes it pays to be lazy

Anyways, after I changed the clutch, the engage/disengage point was back close to the floor where I like it. If you do adjust the freeplay in your clutch...just remember to adjust it back when you change your clutch...

Hope this helps.

Check your repair manual for adjustment...I am sure someone will tell you how to do it though...

as far i know you should want your clutch to disengage about 3/4 of the way from the floor its too close to the floor there will be no room for the auto matic adjustment in the hydrualic system just a thought too close to the floor makes it a feather clutch lol

Thanks guys, Ive allready messed with the clutch free play with no results. You can pre load the master cylinder and it will fix the problem for about 10 minutes, then it goes right back to where it started. Can't figure this one out.
