USA carb to efi question

My 94 toyotat is EFI but the used motor i am getting is a 22r. I have been told it's not hard to switch the wotor over to efi by using my 94 intake. Is this true. Can I just swap them and run it?

Thanks,
Jason

I looked around for you and found a link Sidney supplied a while back on Carb to EFI conversion:

http://www.yankeetoys.org/black900rr/EFI.html

I think it would be pretty easy for you since the EFI was already on the truck (no messing with wiring, hoses etc) It would be a little more difficult if you had a carb engine and were installing EFI on it....as it is done in the site above ^^^

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. Seems to me it should basically just bolt right up. I'll just have to keep the EFI intake from the old motor (EFI equiped). Thanks for the help

I'm in the same situation. I'm replacing my engine in a 94 pickup EFI with an older carb. engine. I think all you need to do is to switch everthing over, the only question I have is the head the same on a 22RE and a 22R? Do they both have the same Cam? I'm not sure. I was thinking there might be a difference in the camshaft for a carb. engine versus a EFI engine.

The heads are different depending on the year: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t61926.html

No they cannot:

81-84 heads=larger chamber and round shaped exhaust ports
85-95 heads=smaller chamber and pear shaped exhaust ports
So as long as your heads are within the same year range, they are compatible.

The camshaft is different between the carb engine and the EFI. At least, that is what I read from the site I listed above ^ http://www.yankeetoys.org/black900rr/EFI.html

Hope this helps
