350 swap fuel question

i have a 1994 toyota 4x4 that i put a carbed chevy 350 in. we got it fired up yesterday, but i have a question about fuel delivery. when i have the stock fuel pump connected, it puts out way tooo much fuel, and when i pull the fuse for it, it seems like its not getting enough with the mechanical pump (maybe the stock pump is restricting it ). can i leave the stock fuel pump hooked up and run a regulator? if so, what is a good regulator to use? the 350 is carbed and the toyota was 22re efi. if the stock toyota efi fuel pump is pushing around 40psi, why cant i just add a fuel regulator that regulates the fuel down to 5-9 psi on the fuel line? will this work ? what do i need to do with the mechanical chevy pump? please tell me how to do this! any help is greatly appriciated!!!

The EFI pump puts out like 35-45 PSI and a non EFI pump puts out maybe 5-7.

By pulling the fuse the pump is now a restriction.

Is it an intank pump or external? If external you can either replace it with a pump from a speed shop or just replace it with a hose and let the engine fuel pump do all of the work.

You can get a fuel pressur regulator from Jeg's or Summit. As for the mechanical pump, remove it, sell it on Ebay, and get a fuel pump block off plate from Jeg's.

Mine runs 9lbs on a mechanical pump. It also has a relocated fuel pickup tube( see in the picture). The fule line is 1/2 in size and uses nothing that was part of the stock Toyota and I don't have any problems. If you go with the stock pump in the tank make sure you have a return line for the pressure you bleed off.
