Downey Off-Road in California has everything you need for the swap. If you want to keep the four banger, then you can always changed out the intake, headers, exhaust, ignition, plug wires, etc, etc. Or 100 shots of nitrous?

Forget the intake. Headers on a 22r/re don't do much. Put on a decent 2-1/4" cat back exhaust, use Genuine Toyota tune-up parts...and drive. Using a mish-mash of parts, and then buying aftermarket tune-up parts may cancel out any gains, and costs more than just keeping it stock.

If intake and headers won't do much, then why would a cat back exhaust alone will? That's like breathing through one nostril. If you're going to allow your engine to breathe better, then you need to do it properly and upgrade the ENTIRE exhaust and intake to allow more air to enter. Intake and exhaust go hand in hand. Don't do a halfass upgrade. You won't feel any increase in power that way.

Yeah, I too believe that's not true. The best way to gain horsepower in ANY application period is to get the most air in as fast as you can and the most exhaust out as fast as you can. This is with ALL cars. Turbo's, superchargers, Nitrous. All of them have to do with more airflow and good exhaust emission.

So, start with a new exhuast system from the headers back or just a cat-back. Then either get a new intake or "swiss" your current airbox. If I was you, I would cam it next. Forget ignition and wires. Get a cam and get some noticeable horsies going.

wow thats alot of info to digest. lets try to streem it all togather in a way that you can make some real progress. first a good tune up plugs, wires, cap,roter,ect... then you need to make sure your valves lash is ajusted properly, your compression is up to speck, your O2 cencer is good, you have no vacume leaks and all of your EFI components are working properly. any of these things can rob big Hp. and hotroding a sick engine is piontless. when all of these things are perfect you have around 110hp. then I would install a electric fan and an underdrive pully kit this will free up about 8-10hp to the ground . now you have a good platform to start some performance mods. from, A high flow exhaust and a K&N air filter system would be the next logical step. now you will have the best bang for the buck and your still stock engine is puting alot more hp to the wheels and every thing you do from this point will have the best possiable results. then you might look into a cam. valves, valve springs, headers ect...... good luck hope this helps.

when talking about a intake I assume we are talking about an aftermarket air filter kit.
k&n is the most popular but all of the after market stuff is better than stock. lcengineering.com has allmost everything you could possiably need but they are not the cheepest deal in town. you might serch Ebay under 22r you find alot of good deals thare.
