dead 4 runner-need help

ive got a 88 4 runner. its dead--no power. i think its a fuse but dont know what one. i drove it to the store, shut it off came back out and have nothin, no lights no power to anything. checked battery connection and they are ok. anyone have any ideas?

Did you check the actual battery? Sometimes batteries will die just like that. If battery still has good voltage, check the fuses in the box next to the battery. There are a couple of big ones in there that do NOT pull out, so don't try. If one of those are bad, they unscrew from the bottom. There are other fuse in there that can be pulled and checked, but check your battery first. Also make sure you have a good ground to the battery.

That has happened to me a few times. More times than not the problem has been dirty battery terminals. You say you checked the connections--did you actually clean them? Sometimes the corrosion is not obvious on inspection. As texas12 says, check the ground connecton, too. A corroded cable could cause it, though not too likely. There is a fusible link in the harness that could be at fault, but that is unlikely, too. I don't know where it is located in your truck, though.

i checked the fusable link -- that was it. i replaced it and it runs great --thanks for the help
