Modifications?

I have a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 2.7l 4wd w/ locking hubs and a manual 5speed....looking for a factory replacement exhaust in stainless steel....short cab short bed....maybe even a free flowing cat? Any suggestions? and this truck came with factory locking hubs and steel wheels? i like all of the factory aluminum wheels made in this general age of body, will they fit with locking hubs? and who do you recomend to upgrade the locks with?
Thanks Ken

Nice, I'm in the same boat with a '98. I'm thinkin' a header set, new cat and stainless cat back system is just what I need. I'll probably end up moding a cheep intake kit to actually give me "cold" air as well. The only advice Ive recieved is to have a stainless system fabricated by a muffler shop which sound unnecessarily expensive. As for the free flowing cat, I'm not conviced. I had on on my '90 G60 Corrado and the only change I saw was lost back pressure, fuel economy and dirty looks for increased exhaust noise. A normal cat is deffinately better for the enviroment, your wallet and respect. Besides a new cat flows really well. Older cats dont flow as well because, well, they're older. Anyway, heres a bump for your thread... let me know if you find out anything useful.

dunno about the cam man, thats gettin kinda spendy, it'll give you a lot of "noticable" horsepower though.
on the cheaper side: I'd say some good headers and maybe a decent cat back setup and thats about all you need. get a K&N filter instead of one of those "cold air" systems that should help it breathe a little better and its easier on the wallet ($30 bucks for a filter VS 120 on a whole intake. plus your stock air box will keep water and mud out better than an open filter if you're ever puddle jumpin or muddin. as far as your hubs go. my 87 4X4 has never had a problem with the hubs, still turn easy as day. in my opinion, your stock hubs are bullet-proof dont fix em if they aint broke. and I'm not entirely sure, but I think those rims you were talkin about will fit just fine.

if you do go with a cam though, find a grind you like and go to a machine shop and get a re-grind cam. usually run ya about $75 for the cam its self, but then you have to find a place to throw it in for ya.

good luck bud, let us know what you decide to get and how it works out for ya!

thanks guys

thanks for all the options given to me.....i really wish i could find a stainless exhaust kit but noone makes it and to have a muffler shop do it means harder to replace in the long run.... keepall the suggestions coming....love the truck...

Umm.....a cat-back system and headers combined would cost more than a cam....
