Can I get more hp outa 3.0

I am looking into buying a 4runner, I like the 96 and newer, but I am going back to school and would like to save some money by buying a 95, but I am really disappointed with the motor. Is there anything out there to get 20hp+ and still be reliable? And overall it needs to be cheap enough to warrant purchasing an older model. Any info is greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by cheap? Modifying your vehicle can get expensive when it all adds up.

I would say nothing over $500, but I could rationalize up to $1000.

Or are there more options with purchasing one with a 4 banger and upgrading it. I haven't driven one with the 4 cyl, is it just as bad or better. This would be I think the 2.4? Not sure.

There are brand new TRD superchargers on Ebay for about $1200 and have seen some used ones for about $1000. Otherwise, you can go with full exhaust, intake, pulleys, ignition and should keep you around the $1000 mark.

For which motor does the supercharger work for. I though it was just the 3.4

Oops. My bad. You're right, it's just the 3.4 (misread your thread).

For under $1000, get headers and exhaust. Thats about the best you can do for it for that much money.
