Re: fuel pump whines-warm weather woes

pro response much appreciated...

my 1994 4runner runs great in cool weather
cold start good, plenty of power...smooth running
***
in warmer weather it cranks and cranks and starts when it gets ready to -10-15 seconds (usually 3 tries) (burned out one starter, already)
****
truck runs good around town for a while...but waiting at a light, you'll start to hear whining from the right rear, which i can only assume is the fuel pump...gets worse and worse...soon idle rpms drop..and if i don't catch the traffic lights just right..i'm lucky to make it home..
--let her cool off for 30-40 minutes, and she's good for another (short) round of errands
****
also when it's hot, fuel pump whining, cutting off, hard to crank, it's not unusual for the starter to quit, until everything cools down. the new (6mos.) starter is not as bad as the old one but getting worse.
****
also under these conditions, the a/c will most likely knock-off.
***
i can see a connection between the fuel and overworking the starter...but what' the a/c got to do with it..?
***
the a/c problem was noticed first
***
160,000 mi...owned it 2 yrs.
***
the engine never evr runs hot by the guage, never boiled over never added water...les than a gal of antifreeze since i've owned it.
***
north carolina gets hot in the summer, but something's wrong
no probs in winter
***
engine was replaced before i bought it...hack job on wiring is evident.
will a new fuel pump fix it...? what about the a/c...?

thanks
mac

Probably the fuel pump about to quit. Mine went out at 161,000. Is there any indication of the truck running rich, ie black smoke? If so, it might the the fuel pressure regulator malfunctioning causing the fuel pump to overwork.
