I don't have any experience with installing a turbo on a Toyota Pickup, but I have a 1986 Toyota Turbo 4X$ Pickup. I don't know if you would really get a bang for your buck on a turbo'd 4 cylinder. Although I am sure that my 4 cylinder turbo winds up quicker than a stock 22re, I really don't think you are putting a bunch more HP to the ground. You might want to look at some other options, like a six cylinder model if you need more horses.

It's far cheaper and better results to swap in a GM 4.3v6.

You will run into some problems when putting a turbo on a no-turbo 22RE. The compession is to high and the computer will not understand a pressure in the intake instead of a vacuum. There are ways around that but I think you will be into more of a headache then it is worth. Get a bigger engine if you want more power. Stay with the 22RE if you want a bullet proof engine!

I'd hardly call the 22r bulletproof.....
Throw a lil more compression on it and it'll stretch them long head bolts in a short time. And then there's the timing chain/water housing issue...
I'll say I never chucked a rod, but it wouldn't turn more than 7,500 rpm in any gear.
