Possible new Tacoma

I'm in the process of looking for a Tacoma double cab and think I may have found the right one for me. It's a 2001 liimited 4x4, Auto trans with a matching topper and 81k miles for 15900.00. This will be the truck that my wife and I take on our annual road trip from Colorado to the boundry waters in Minnesota - with our two labs riding shotgun in the back seat.

Since I have never owned a Tacoma I was wondering if there is anything I should look for on the truck, being that it has a bit higher miles - which also leads to my next question. Is 81k high for a Tacoma? I've read several threads that say these trucks should easily last 200k miles if properly maintained.

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

81k miles is a little more than average for a 2001 model, but as you have read toyotas do last if well maintained. Personally I think that price is a little much. You should go to www.kbb.com and price it out with the options you think the truck has. I did it on what I thought that truck might be equiped with and only got $14,000 for it. But I might have been missing some items.

81,000 miles isn't too high for a Tacoma. Just a few more questions about the truck though:
*does it have the TRD package?
*is it equipped with ABS?
*is the paint/body in good condition?
*are you buying it from a dealership or private seller?

- That sounds like a decent price for that truck....if it is not equipped w/ ABS or does not have the TRD package- I would try to talk them down in price a little bit more. If you are going through a dealership, is there any warranty that they will put on the truck?

It does have ABS, but not the TRD package (No locker!!!! )

It has leather interior - which I am not all that keen about never having leather interior in a truck and having two dogs to toat about. The body and paint are in excellent condition. The truck is at a local independant dealer.

I think that is a pretty good deal (I would try to get them to take a little more off the price, or throw in a warranty....but I like to haggle)- here are the results from kelley blue book:
