'99 Toyota Pickup Air Cond. Question

Just got the truck used and the air is blowing warm. I go to the local auto parts store and get a recharge kit. Problem is the air compressor clutch is not engaging. Some have said that some compressors will fail to engage if the coolant pressure level goes too low. The kit has a pressure gage on it and when I try to recharge the system the pressure taps out the gage.

I think it's because the clutch is not engaging. Is there a reset button on the compressor or what? I don't want to take it to the dealer as I have done this before on my own.

Any help would be helpful.

a/c

the clutch will not kick in untill you get 50 lbs of pressure on the high side......the little charge kit you are using probably only hooks up to the low side

You should check for leaks before you start adding freon/refrigerant.
