I doing a timing chain install on my 1993 pickup. It's got a 22re and the manual says that I need to prime my oil pump and system but I have no idea how to do that. To do the install I took off the front cover and took off the water and oil pumps. I also dropped the oil pan and in order to take the oil pan out I took off the oil pickup tube. I used an oil resistant RTV the flange where the pickup tube meets the block. Is that ok??? I couldn't find a gasket at any auto parts stores. So what I need help with, is I need to know how to prime my oil system and if that RTV was ok for the pickup tube. Thanks guys!!

Priming the oil pump means pack it with a lithium grease while the timing cover is off.
