I'm sorta new to this Toyota fun, I've only had my truck for about 2 weeks and through my interests I'm learning it all quite fast.. One thing I really want to do to my truck before summer hits is put a lift kit on it.. the truck already has 31x10.5's on it and it really makes all the difference in appearence... Now I'm wondering what are some things I want to consider when looking for a lift kit. Where are some good prices? Which kits are more complete and user friendly? I would like to do the work myself and I don't want to have to do too much part hunting due to an incomplete kit. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Well it dpends on what you want to do with your rig. If you plan on solid axle swapping (SAS) your rig then add a leaves in the rear, shackles, cranked torsion bar, and ball joint spacers will give 3" or so of lift. If you dont plan on SAS'ng then a standard 4" lift should do. A pro-comp stage 2 lift is a very good kit as well as the rough country 4" kit. Try and go with add a leaves or new leave springs i nthe rear. Stay away from blocks. If you do get blocks..try and get 2" or smaller blocks. You can then buy shackles ot lif tthe rear and not use the blocks. http://rough.roughcountry.com/RC%20Web/86-96_Toyota.htm Rough country http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/produ...RO&expand=sub4 Pro Comp

Hey: It really depends on how much money you want to spend, size tires you want to run, etc. If you can afford it, go with a suspension lift. A body lift is cheaper, but it isn't necessarily easier to install. Plus, a suspension lift requires fewer permanent mods. You didn't say what year your truck was, but I'm assuming it has an IFS. A 3 or 4" kit will probably run you around 600 bucks (I haven't checked prices in a long time though). Installation isn't too difficult if you have standard tools (a hydraulic lift helps big time) and a little general 4X4 know-how. My first install took about 2 full days, the second took a little over a day and the third took less than a day.
Also remember that you will want to swap gears if your gonna run 33s or larger, or risk doing damage to your tranny in the long term. Remember that these trucks were designed and built to accept and perform properly with stock equipment. Going bigger on tires/engine requires that you beef up other components so that there are no weak links. Believe me, I speak from experience. Hope this helps...

Hey really appreciate the help guys, I was kinda hoping to get the body off the frame just a bit and then head towards like 4 inches in the suspension.. kits out there are pretty pricey i've noticed so i'll have to rethink budget. Thanks again

Yeah, there's a shop called APJ on the cobequid road about 1 minute away from the Timmy Horton's.They are jeep specialists but sell and do lifts on whatever. All the Jeep club guys seem to be around alot.Good place to go to get into the local off-road scene-I noticed they have some yota parts trucks in back, too.
Don't forget to change your gears when you go with bigger tires! That's going to run you a few more hundred.
Good point. What size tires do you plan to run. 33"'s = 4:88 gear ration front and rear for 4x4 and 35"'s = 5:29 gear ratio. You must change your gears when going up in tire sizes or you lose lots of power and you can break things

I don't plan on puttin new tires on it anytime soon.. i'll probably stick with the 31's that came on it, since the are like brand new... i want to stick to a tire that's going to be good on the road since i'm using it for travelling back and forth to school.
