Any experience with the U-haul high performance tranny cooler?

I use my 2004, 6cyl Taco to tow a boat. I am thinking about adding a tranny cooler, does anyone have experience with the U-haul high performance tranny coolers? These cost $81. The TRD tranny cooler at Toyota Parts World for example retails for about $200. I'm trying to determine the difference. I spoke to a mechanic who said they all work the same.

Thanks

Did your truck come with the tow package? If so, you already have a tranny cooler installed. If you don't have one, I am willing to bet that there is no real difference between the U-hual and the TRD (except for the high dealership costs!!) If you look around on the Web I am willing to bet you could find a TRD cooler for around $100.

No factory tow package

My truck did not come with a factory tow package. The factory tow package includes a class IV towing hitch, transmission oil cooler (automatic transmission models), supplemental engine oil cooler, heavy-duty battery, 130-amp alternator and 7-pin connector with converter. All of which strikes me as unnecessary except for the applicable converter, hitch, and tranny cooler. I use Mobil 1 synthetic for better engine heat distribution. I like the idea of a tranny cooler though.

I have a suspicion the Uhaul tranny cooler is as good as the TRD cooler at a fraction of the cost. I was curious if anyone had experience to know for sure. I know what you mean about the dealer inflated prices for the same thing. I would NEVER get accessories from a dealership unless they are very unique. You can get trailer hitches, bedliners, caps, etc., etc., etc. for less money at local retail shops. In most cases they are the exact same brand name. I got my Duraliner bedliner for $180 installed and the dealership wanted $300 for the exact same model.

I've used the U-Haul Trans Cooler on many tow vehicles pulling a 29' Travel trailer with no problems!! I have never used it on the Toyota but I assure you that it's as good, if not better, than the TSD cooler!! Capacity and air cooling surface are the main things to look at!!

Check your other thread (Delta Flow vs. Flowmaster). I have responded there. One more note: they are both made by Flowmaster: it is just different series of mufflers: Deltaflow series and Original series.
