Hello all!
I have a 1993 2wd Toyota Pickup with the 22-re 4-cylinder engine on it and I would like to know alittle about cold air intakes. I see cheap ones on ebay and expensive ones made by K&N. They claim performance gains up to 26HP. Up to...that probably means 3hp gains.
I want to get one for my truck but I'm not shelling out 200$ on something that might get me 5HP.
Any suggestions from some that uses cold air intakes?
Ty and have a good day!

you can make your own?
some PVC, a cone filter and a ruber adapter and you will be good to go.
Spray paint helps too.
Otherwise I would tell you not to waste your money, not the most popular opinion on here, I just don't think CAIs are worth it unless you hook it up to some type of snorkle so you can go through deep water when wheelin.

My god you sould like my dad lol...ok, I'm going to actally try it since your the 3rd person that has said this hehe.
Ty for your time
how hard is it to swtich the battery and the intake? if im going to make my own pvc pipe cold air intake, id probabyl benefit more from switching the two, getting rid of the 90 degree angle before the efi body.
You can kinda see mine here, the snorkel is in the top picture on the passenger side (the little hard hat looking thing) and the intake it he piece of PVC the the stock air intake (black tube is attached to (that is the best pic i have of it under the hood, but you get the idea. the big silver bullet attached to the intake is just part of my OBA.
the hardest part was figureing out what size pvc would fit and what filter to use.
I didn't use a K&N i used an other companies, cna't remember now who's but i also used a pre filter cut out of a big fram box filter to keep out dust.

i have one of those home intakes on my 93 22re. you will get maybe 8 hp gain.
but you do the mass air flow sen trick to and if you put headers on will get a better hp gain

does anyone know price ranges on headers and a cam for the 22RE? I have to do my valve seals anyways.. so i thought it would be a good time to look into a more agressive cam for a bit of HP gain.

You can get headers through a company called Performance Products.
Ceramic coated headers cost you $378.95 and steel headers will cost you anywhere from $207.95 to $393.95.

Go to gadgetonline.com and read what they say about K&N before buying. That link was provided by another TN member and it changed my mind. Glad I did not waste my money.
Ive seen one of the best engine upgrades so is from LC Engineering but u gotta shell out quite alot its like a grand but u get everything Headers, Cam, Exhaust ect all the stuff u want all at the same time or u could just order it seperate now about the snorkle they dont make any for 22re's but they do for v6 and u could just wing it and use pvc or a ricer intake kit
