no compression

ok to make a long story short. I ran the truck real hot and it stop running. I figure I just broke the head gasket/ So I had the head resurfaced and put a new gasket on it. Well it won't start. I'm assuming I broke the rings or something to keep it from getting compression because I'm only getting compression out of #4cly Also would it be better(cheaper) to rebuild the motor or buy reman? I know of a shop that will sell me a short block for $350. Do anyone know of a good shop south of Dallas that could take out and install the new motor?
