Question Looking at a 94, but don't trust the mileage

Do shady used car lots still roll back odometers? Also, if a speedo head has been replaced, how can you tell? I'm getting ready to buy an 80,000 mile truck & I just want to be sure it's the real thing. '94 Pickup, 4WD, 2.3L, manual, reg cab.

What else should I look at to determine overall mileage? Thx.

Can't really tell if they've changed it or not. The best way is to spend a few bucks and run a Carfax report and get the lowdown. That seems REALLY low for that year of truck. Are you sure it's not 180K miles?

I work for a used car dealership! Granted we are an honest credit non fucking establishment! I'd say that its allways possible to roll it back, it'd just be a matter of time for the sleazy salesman to do so!!But I wouldn't count on something like that to be very probable.and if its a 94 I'd think the odom would read 180k not 80, I have a 92 pickup sure its 2 years older it has almost 200k on it! Im not sure how you would ckeck if a speedo has been replaced...wouldn't be the factory one, might look newer!!!??

Im guessing this is the reason that you almost every car/truck/SUV has a digital odometer (Im guessing its MUCH harder to roll back the odo when its all computerized).

There is no real way to tell if it has been rolled back.

Its not impossible for a '94 to only have 80,000 miles on it, but I would be VERY suspicious. The only possible situation I can think of is perhaps an elderly person owned that truck and only drove it to town and back once a week.
