USA Tacoma sound system.

Ok.. I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma standard w/ a type 2 sound system. (The type with the cassette deck.) What I'm trying to figure out is if I have a cd player in my Tacoma, and if I don't is it possible to install one. Above the tuner there's a plate that looks like it could be removed.. it sticks out partly. Could anyone tell me if that plate is removable and if it is, there's wiring behind there? Or if not do I have a cd player.. maybe I'm overlooking something but I don't know and I don't really want to remove it unless there is wiring back there. Thanks.

Turn on your radio and grab a cd. See if you can slide the cd into the plate you are talking about. Just do it easy because if you have a cd player it will take the cd from you on it's own and start playing. For more info just check your owners manual and it will tell you all about it. Mike

Yeah... I tried that, it wouldnt work... so I'm stumped. The guide tells me I have a cd player though. I don't quite get it.

No you don't have the CD player, you can get a factory one off ebay pretty cheap. Or you can get a decent aftermarket one for around 200.00

What do you want to spend to have a cd player?

Here's a good idea

The book will show you several different ones but it sounds like you don't have a cd player. If it's not taking a cd or opening when you try to insert one then it's not there. You may want to have someone who has a cd player take a look at it or try it for you.

I have an 01 taco that had the tape/cd player but did not have very good sound at all. At highway cruising speeds I could not hear vocals. I purchased an aftermarket kenwood cd player with no tape (I dont have any tapes) and it powered the speakers so much better. Go to an electronic store and usually they will install for free if it is over a certain price, usually $100. It made such a big difference. I highly recommend doing so.

Scratch Bose off the list. Take a look at this thread for some ideas.
