Head Torque / Valve Adjust ?

'89 4X Pickup, installed new longblock 22RE, when do you re-torque the head. And is the valve adjustment done engine hot or engine cold? ive heard engine cold with a 6lb. pull on the feeler guage. Any suggestions?

I hope you don't have to re-torque the head, cuz I haven't. As far as valve lash, it's done cold, with normal feeler gauge resistance. I recommend setting each valve while it's cam lobe is totally opposite the rocker.

From what I understand... it wouldnt hurt to torque your head again at 500 miles... I just built my engine today and that is what I am planning to do...

Umm....no

Retorque head at 500 miles operation.

Adjust valves with a HOT engine, use .007" on the intake and .011 on the exhaust (yes I know that's .001 tighter than spec).
You want to hear a light snap as you pull the feeler gauge out.
