Yeah, they melt inside.just grab it and push towards the windshield, they just snap in place. Then you can(1) take it apart and see if it can be cleaned up and fixed -epoxy will fix up where the ball bearing melted the plastic.(2)$80 at toyota east(3) $20 atR&R Kinsmans.you might also want to check the heater resistor next to the blower motor.

Ugh this is going to be a hassle... I called around different salvages and no luck... so I called the dealership and they told me they don't very often hear of switches burning up... so I'm going to check for power coming from the switch, and if there's power then I have to blame the blower motor itself... Ugh!!! Hoping it's just the switch!

I doubt that the former owner of your rig replaced that blower heater resistor as they cost $40 or so and have to be prepaid in advance and take at least 3 days to arrive and the average person (who doesn't frequent these discussion sites) wouldn't know about how to replace it.Looking at it would tell you if the resistor is burnt,to veify you could take an ohmeter or if you would like bring it over and I could test it for you,no problem.

Heavy blower resistor (Toy EPC calls it a cooler/coil resistor,fan coil resistor) for fan # 88635-89103 (85-86 4-Runner,4 speed fan) & 87138-89105 (89 pickup)

Any Public Library in your area like the Spring Garden Rd Public Library (in Halifax) and the Alderney Gate Public Library (in Dartmouth) would have the Factory service manual and maybe: Haynes,Chiltons,Mitchells,Clymers,Bentley and Toyota repair books.

There is also free AutoZone service manuals at:

FSM (factory service manual)can be acquired in several ways:

Toyota Material Distribution Center
750 West Victoria St
Rancho Dominguez/Compton,CA 90220-5538
USA
Ph:1-800-622-2033 (outside CA)(M-F: 7-5 PST)
Ph:1-800-443-7656 (inside CA)
Ph:1-310-818-4630 (in or outside CA)
Speak to Beverly or Deloris
http://techinfo.toyota.com/public/main/mdc.html
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/FSM.shtml

1)buy a used one off e-bay
2)some Toyota dealerships may give you one or sell it for $10-20 (used) as most Toyota dealerships don't repair many old Toyotas and no longer need the service manual
3)some public libraries sell their old books as they are not in demand any longer
4)some free buy & sell classified papers, websites and bulletin boards may have some used ones for sale
5)some junk yards may have one laying around
6)some Toyota specialty garages may have one laying around and no longer use it as the vehicle may be too old and those mechanics probably have so much experience that they could publish their own factory service manual with corrections and "real world repair tips"
7)if someone has the FSM maybe they could scan all of the pages and post it on a site for all of us to download or view.

Only had the 1-2-4 speeds working on my '93 replaced the resistor did not make a difference so I took out the switch and sprayed contact cleaner into it and it began to work. But a short time later the switch became worse so I replaced it with a new one. Bought it through a friend’s auto shop that bought it through the local Toyota dealer paid $46 and change. Problem solved!

Would anyone know why my heater doesn't turn down to cool? it's throwing wide open heat all the time and the switch is attached to a rod, and does feel like it's doing something.. i just don't know how they work exactly.

Well I took the switch apart and fixed it, and it works cause you can hear the relay kick in but the blower isn't turning on. I guess the next step is the resistor... would a bad switch cause the truck to burn up resistors? Because the resistor has just been replaced.
