Oil pressure gauge

Hello everyone...

Theres an isuue with my 89 4Runner 3.0 V6 oil gauge, when the engine come warm the oil gauge drops less than the half on the indicator, I have no funny noises on the engine no oil waste also it was checked by a mechanic and he toldme that the pressure is normal.

Some of you know something about this?

The oil pressure on the 3.0 is normally low when heated up. The Toyota specs say that the minium pressure at operating temp and 800 rpms is 4.3 psi. My truck will run at about 65 psi cold but drops to about 15 psi when operating temp is reached at idle. At 3,000 rpms it will hold about 45 to 50 psi. So as long as your having no problems and the oil pressure is still there but low don't worry about it!!

If the current behavior is a lower reading than your oil pressure gauge used to always provide, you might have a fatigued or degrading sensor unit. When my '93 truck's oil pressure gauge started reading low (with no apparent problems) I had the shop check it out. The sensor was the problem - they replaced it, and it's been reading 'as new' ever since.
