USA need help with a 22re

hey, ive got a 94 pickup with a 22re in it. it runs like a champ when it starts, and when my foots on the gas. the only time i have a problem is after ive driven a while. the truck idles really roughly, it sounds like its struggling to keep on running. if ive been driving on the freeway for a while it sounds like its rattling almost. i think ive got the problem nailed down to clogged fuel injectors, but im not sure.

ive been running it like this for about a year, so the really big question i have is if it is the fuel injectors have i done any damage to the cylinder, crank, con rod bearings, con rod..... im pretty paranoid about this because i have to drive from virginia to oregon in 6 weeks, and i dont want to have to replace my crank in the middle of nowhere.

ive never had a fuel injected car before so this is all a learning experience. i had no idea injectors needed to be periodically cleaned.

thanks for any help.

I have a 89 4runner V6 thats seems to be doing the exact same thing......
I was told it might be the injectors.......I think I am going to have new ones put in......anyone know the cost of this?????

Also considering a cold air intake so it can breathe better.....

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed?

Could all this be a bad vaccum hose? I've seen many problems like this due to cracked and rotten hoses, I think I'd look at some of them to be sure they're in good shape.

I have a 1986 Toyota Pickup, the 22RTEC, which is the turbo charged 22R with EFI, that is showing a similiar problem. It starts right up and runs fine until the vehicle gets warmed up. Idle seems to be tracking at about 650 RPM under a load, around 800 RPM in nuetral or park. Once the vehicle warms up, the idle seems to drop below 600 RPM and gets somewhat eractic. It doesn't race up and down, it just seems to slip a little and sounds like it might be missing. I also have a problem with warm starting the vehicle. Generally have to crank it over for a longer period of time once it has been run for a while and not allowed to cool down. The idle tends to be in the 500- 600 RPM range after a warm start.

Any help would be appreciated. I was wondering if some of the vacuum hoses could be causing the problem or if I need to make some adjutsments to the idle. I also thought it may be a fuel injector issue, but I am not sure where to start.
Thanks
Bill V.

I would have to agree with the theory that the idle needs adjusting. My old 91 truck had a similar issue. Adjusting the idle screw on top of the throttle body took care of it. However if you are having trouble with it at expressway speeds I would lean more twords a vacume leak or an egr problem. If you have high milage on your truck the cat converter may be getting plugged up.
