1978 tow capacity
I found an international farmall cub that I would like to purchase. It weighs between 1400 and 1800 lbs depending on wheel weights, accessories etc. I have a 1978 toyota long bed sr5. It has the 20 r engine and manual 5 spd tranny. Would it be able to handle this tractor and a small trailer? I am not particularly worried about braking capacity, the brakes have performed exceptionally and seem overkill, I have hauled loads of wood weighing well over 1000 lbs and a load of mulch weighing right at 1000 lbs with no problem, plus with the manual I can get some engine braking. Of course the tractor and trailer combo will greatly exceed the weight of a load of wood. What I am really concerned with, is the transmission and clutch being able to withstand the weight. Just trying to get an idea if it is sensible or if I should go another route. I do have a boat and trailer which would closely mimic the weight of the tractor, so I may try pulling it around town to see how that goes. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
