Question 92' Mod Help

Hey guys i need yall help i finally got my last paycheck and i have enough to start moddin my 22R-E. So heres my question; Should I get a Cam(LC) or headers/intake? I personaly wanna get a Cam but what duration? LC has a Pro Efi Cam but its a 280 cam isnt that a lil high? i reckon 260 262 or 268 would be good for stock internals. So what do u guys think?

Id go with the headers/intake. Having an aggressive cam doesnt mean a thing if you dont have the flow to utilize what the cam can do.

My experience is that you need all of that to get a worthwhile gain so it doesn't really matter which comes first. I would go to www.engnbldr.com for your cam though. There are also some folks on 4x4wire who have done some research and found that headers don't offer near the gain for the buck that simply upgrading your exhaust will provide. Although, Thorley has a good header for around 200 bux, so that's not too terribly expensive. Even if you run a header, it's largely wasted unless you upgrade your exhaust anyway, so I'd start with the new exhaust and throw in a cam. You can search 4x4wire for 22R exhaust and see what you find there.

Either way you go will help. One thing to remember is that even if you put a new header and exhaust with a new intake on it, you will not see the full benifits of the installation untill you put in a performance chip to tell your computer what to do with the added airflow. If you do this and put in a cam look at increasing the fuel rail and injectors. My mechanic told me last week that if I did everything else first and then put in a chip that there are several companies that will burn a chip specifically for your vehicle and the mods you have made to the engine. Thus getting the most out of your efforts. Unfortunatly he did not metion a company name but I will try and find out.
