Fuel Tank question

I have a '86 4runner. Spec for gas tank is 14.8g for standard and 17.2g for large. Does anyone know if that includes reserve? What do they consider capacity? I run full to empty and vary between 15g and up to 16.17g on a fill-up. I usually run it below the empty on the guage and fill to the stem. Is it most likely that I have a 14.8g and have been very lucky by never running out of gas or do I have a 17.2g? Is there anyway to tell for sure without carrying a can of gas and actually letting it run out of gas?

well if you were to have a drain plug in the tank, could drain it..at least one of my trucks has the drain plug for the tank..i'd also wait till you're already on empty, just so its easier to measure and if you do drain it, ya should look at the guage and see when your on empty lol
thats the only way i could think of??
