Rough Idle - Not Stalling

What do you suggest I check if my 95 Taco is idling rough with suddenly bad gas milage? Plugs first, then wires?? I'm new to working on my vehicles - divorced my mechanic! Thanks in advance...

check air filter. replace if needed.
replace fuel filter if this hasn't been done in say 20+K miles.
check throttle body. clean if needed.

plugs are good for 15-30k miles in my opinion, some go longer others don't.
I haven't changed my wires yet and have over 100K miles.

mine is/was doing the same...pulsing idle, and jerking when letting off the gas (when rpm drop below 1800)

Turns out my EGR was not closing...as soon as I pushed it closed, it purred like a kitten (even with 331,999 KM's)
