Stumbling, starving problem

I have a 94 base model pickup with a 22RE. It stumbles/stutters through the rev range, then picks back up, and only does it moderately.

how can i find out what this problem is? o2 sensor, etc?

hesitation or stumble during accelleration

1 ignition timing incorrect
2 ignition system not working properly
3 dirty carb or fuel injector
4 low fuel pressure.check for proper operation of the fuel pump and for restrictions in the fuel filter and lines
5 carb out of adjustment

Its a 22-RE so its not a carb problem for sure.

I am curious as to how you check the TPS sensor.........it feels like its fuel related, not timing related. The thing runs fine when i floor it and get it past a certain RPM level.

get yourself a Haynes manual. it will show you how to use the self diagnostic that these ecu's have. should be able to narrow it down from there (tps, o2...)

Mine has a stumble while starting from dead stop. No ECU code. TPS is set up. Timing is good and it runs great once it is rolling. Is that the same problem that you are having? I have not figured it out yet. Living with it for now.

Here is a website that shows you how to adjust the TPS:

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml

You can try and test it on the truck, but if you are going to adjust it, make it easier on yourself and remove the throttle body....one of the screws for the TPS is hard to get to when it is on the truck. If you do remove it, you can give the TB a good cleaning while you are at it.

The problem I had with my TPS was the return spring-coil was gummed up and wasn't allowing the sensor to return all the way (throttle closed)...besides that, it was out of adjustment. After I adjusted it I was finally able to disable the electronic advance and adjust my timing (if the TPS is not right, it won't allow you to do this).

Hope this helps

Also, did you check for any codes? Maybe you will find something there. Mine was hesitating a little bit (and missing at idle)...checked my codes and it said I had a miss. Turned out to be one bad plug wire. It was just like what you were saying...after getting passed the hesitation, it would run fine.
