my 1980

i have a 1980 4x4 longbed. 20r, 4spd. i am not a mechanic, but i know some about these trucks. if you have any questions just pm me and i will TRY to help. there a many differences between the 2wd and 4wd versions, but some stuff is the same.

check out TAP recycling, they have good stuff.

by the way

that thing is in horrible shape. fortunately these things are a dime a dozen junkyards.

and are you sure that is not a 79? 79 and 80 are the two years with that bodystyle, headlight style, and 20r, and your interior does not look like any 80's i know.

supra swap?

swapping a supra inline 6 into one of these is definetly ground breaking and creative, but i imagine it would take a whole lot of custom work. if you have the time and money it could be worth a shot. i would just put in a hot rodded 22re. LC Engineering maybe? let us know how it turns out

I think a smallblock V8 might even be an easier swap than a supra. Though I've fantasized plenty about putting a 2jz-gte in place of my 20R....

I have a '78 20R truck with a five-speed...very similar hardware-wise to what you've got there. One of LC Engineering's hot-rod 22Rs is probably the quickest path to high-performance, but if you've got the guts to try a more serious swap, then by all means go for it! In the meantime, a Weber 38/38 carb will give you a little bit of a shot in the arm. Good luck....

my friends dad once swapped a small v8 into one of these things, but ti was a long time ago. he said it would burn out forever. i think i remember him saying it was a toyota engine he got from japan, like a 4 liter or something. i am not sure about this though because i had never really heard of an old toyota v8. i think a chevy 350 and a 350tranny would be easier than the supra engine, just because people have done it before. if you want to keep it toyota though, i think the supra engine would be cool. maybe consider a the tundra v8

I knew it was no newer than 1981, because I think that beginning in 1982, they had retangle headlights. I know they did by 1983, because my grandpas old 1983 Toyota 4WD had rectangle headlamps.
