Bring money!
So much stuff needs to be replaced that it is better to start out with an American full-size truck...and strip it to bare bones. Screw the sheetmetal on the trail.
Toyota excels at using low horsepower (like my 96HP carbed 1984), and applying every pound foot of torque to the system it was built for.
Ford has a narrower V8 than Chevy, but so what. You can get the same Ford reliability by modifying a Ranger pickup.
Except for mud, total horsepower is way overated.
