2nd Generation newbie

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and need some advice. I am starting to search the posts, but would like some tips on what to look for.

I am thinking of buying at a 1992 4runner (2nd gen) with the 3.0 V6 Auto 4WD. There are 170,000 miles on it.
It needs to be able to survive a trip across the country and also the winters (ice) back east. I think it will need new front rotors and there is a small oil leak. Doesn't seem to be the head gaskets.

Are there any problem areas for this model year?
Are there any components I should examine particularly closely? Or that tend to have problems given that it is 13 years old?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Make sure the head gasket recall was performed on the Runner. Other than that, I can think of anything else. You also might want to check out www.yotatech.com because there's a lot more folks there with Runners.
