CEL help

Hello,

I have an 01 tacoma x cab 4x4 and check engine light just came on. I was driving home from canada today and all the sudden i look down an my light is on. I just had the spark plugs changed and had the dealership clean fuel injectors before the trip. It happened just after 60,xxx miles. If I pull the efi fuss will that reset everything and maby help. One other thing i have noticed is a light grinding noise at about 2-3 k rpm. Dont think it has anything to do with it but thought id mention it. Im just concerned about the cel. Please help.
Thanks

Well, I would say pull the EFI fuse for a few minutes and restart the truck and see if that fixes it. Or you can undo the negative terminal on the battery, that should reset it as well.

Well i pulled the efi fuse sat for a couple then put it back in. I started my truck and the light was gone. Drove about 10 miles and the light came right back on. The truck does not accelerate like usual and is not smooth through the rpms. It cuts in and out. I thought about changing fuel filter but since the test said it is only in one cylinder that the filter is doing its job. Only other thought would be a bad injector.
Any help again is appreciated.

1 bank is 3 cylinders. You could have a vacuum leak thats affecting that bank or possibly an 02 sensor problem. This is one of those codes that dosent really point to anything specific. You could always take it somewhere to get it diagnosed and then fix it yourself.

Do you think it would be best to take it to the dealer for the diagnostic? The prices of any other shop are the same. the thing i am worried about is them trying to void my warranty because i have a different muffler and did the deckplate mod. I know it is not lean because of the deckplate because i have gone 8k miles since that and the muffler is just about as old. Do you think they will try to void the warranty?

Is this an easy fix? Is it worth changing first and seeing if that works? Thanks for the info.

Throwing parts at it van get very expensive and might not take care of the problem. I would just take it wherever you feel comfortable taking it. The dealer isnt always the best option anyway. If your a member of AAA Give them a call and see which shops they recomend in your area. Chances are who ever works on it is gonna look at any changes you made as being part of the problem. A smoke test will help point out any vaccuum leaks.

So I decided to take a little time and look under the hood. I checked all the vacuum lines and while doing this i noticed that 3 clamps on the intake tube were siting crooked on the tube and were not tight at all. One of them had a black box type piece (Sorry dont know what it is) that led into the intake just before throttle that had not been pushed in all the way and probably came loose during the trip. I checked for anything else obvious and did not see anything. pulled efi fuse then started the truck. I have driven it 25 miles with no signs of the light coming back on. The dealership did terrible work and i am never taking it back there ever again. Who knows if they even did any of the things that i paid for.
Sorry for the long post, just can not believe i was going to drop more money for them the tell me what i just typed.
