I have a 1987 Toyota Pickup with 22R engine. The alternator quit charging one day and I replaced it with a new one. It still wouldn't hold charge so I took it to Autozone to have it tested. It was a good alt. Ever since this, the truck will turn over but isn't getting any fire to the coil. I know a little about mechanics and have checked the obvious wiring, relays and fuses but still no clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx
Gotta check the basics.
Do you have a spark on the plugs? Pull a plug, reconnect it to the wire and see.
Do you have gas? Carb'd should be easy to check.

The coils aren't firing at all, because their is no power to them. I can't find any information on what would cause the coils not to fire at all. We also changed the coils and ignitor, but got no results. Appreciate all the help.
Hey, I asked a mechanic about the voltage regulator and he said that on most new or remanufactured alternators, the Voltage regulator is built in with the alternator, so if my alt. tested good, this shouldn't be the problem. Thanx agian for all the help, maybe we'll find the problem soon if I keep getting new Ideas from ya'll. I havent even got to take my new-old 'yota muddin yet!!
sorry about that-my 82 has a seperate voltage regulator mounted by the coil, forgot that newer trucks have them built into the alt. Good luck, mine was doing the same thing but my ignitor went bad, replaced it and it started right up.
