Valve Cover Removal Help!!

I have a 89 pickup with the 22re and I am in the process of changing the valve cover gasket. I have removed all bolts from the cover and i have even tried tapping the cover with a piece of wood and a hammer, but to no success. Does anybody know of any bolt im missing? I have removed the 4 main nuts from the top and all the vaccuum and breather lines. Any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance!

Hi

When I first got my truck 22re it had 120,ooo miles on it and I had to give it a pretty good rap with a rubber mallet ( it had been on for some time I guess LOL
There are only the 4 nuts on top of the cover on mine the rubber seal between head and cover just was stuck pretty good also I have seen people use rtv sealant on there also.
good luck

You usually have to unscrew the rubber seals to remove the cover.

I had the same problem but figured it out after snapping a screw driver in half.

Is it recomended to replaced those screw on rubber gaskets after removal. I used a flat blade and tried not to nick the rubber but I saw to other way to unscrew them.

The valve cover is off right now and so is the head. Hopefully picking up new(used) head tomorow and waiting on the timing set to show up.

Yours are differnet than mine.
on mine they are just rubber spacers/seals with brass tops that slide over the bolt inbetween cover and nut
