Anyone use "real" wax anymore?

Did a search on wax and all I see anyone talk about is Mothers or Maguiers and this stuff is good but it's not a real wax. It does give a great shine that last for a few washings but it doesn't protect like the old waxes did. Most of the waxes today are sold because of ease to work with and not for the true protection.I'm thinking about going back to the Turtle wax or Simonize. It's more work but gives better protection from scratches in the boonies from limbs and briers or at least it used to. Anyone know if they still make the wax as good as they once did?.
Also see several post about how some people think Armoral is bad and causes cracking and browning. I have used the stuff for many years on my vehicals and my wifes cars and never had anything crack or turn brown and I do believe it's great. Used on the dash, rubber trim and plastic trim on the outside and inside.
If anyone can suggest a good paste wax or one better than Turtle of Simonize paste please let let me know what you like . Thanks, Mike

Welcome to the 'clear coat' world. Those older waxes were made to remove layers of dead paint that was common in the old days. Today's cars all come with clear coat so wax manufacturers don't make many old type waxes.

I know they were good for removing oxidation and that it cost you a small fortune to have a detailer Simonize your vehical . There must be a better protection against scratching the clear coat (which you can't rub out) then the Silicone /wax . Guess I'll keep looking . Thanks for the reply Tercel GTS , Mike

No. I dont use real wax anymore. Actually, I dont use wax at all. I use intestinal fluids instead of normal car wax now, because its better. it just is. Try it

Meguiar's has actually been around longer than sliced bread, they know what they are doing. Trust me from someone who's used alot of car stuff. I just love meg's. Their professional line is amazing. Great long lasting and protecting sealants that last months for me. and if you wanna go old school try and find some M16 (which they dont sell in the us anymoree becausee of VOC laws) its carnuba hard as a rock. Also M26 (yellow wax) is carnuba mixed with synthetic, a great protection. I can go on for days about wax.

Back when GM cars were painted with "Magic Mirror" acrylic laquer, you needed wax to protect it, or it would oxidize almost immmediately. As was stated already, those old products were mostly polish, to cut away the dead paint. Thats why there was so much powder left on the surface to buff away.

Be careful about using polishes regularly on clear coats. You could do more harm than good. I use a clay bar instead.

A clay bar is a great way to remove above surface contaminents, polishes(aka diminishing abraisives taht remove VERY small amounts of clear coat) are not meant for constant use, especially more agressive ones, but there are many mild things (such as meguiar's ColorX cleaner wax) which could be used more often.

If you are talking about agressive rubbing compounds of course they will remove clear coat and leave scratches. I could go into insane detail about all this but I think everyone would get really confused.
