possible dash swap..Vin # location

I would like to swap my 88 dash into my 93 truck, Will it go in easy ? The reason for asking is, I am going to race my 93 , but dont have a title on the truck, But i do on my 88....hence the reason I am wanting to swap it. Does anyone know the law on the vin number, and where it has to be? Since i am racing it, but still want it streetable, I have also considered No dash....Is that legal...Where do i have to put the vin # if i dont want a dash?

Well you also have one on the firewall and in the door frame.
It's legal as long as you don't get pulled over
Sounds like the 93 sould be your track truck and the 88 a daily driver.

That's illegal as every digit except the last 5 or 6 digits of the complete 18 digit VIN (serial #) are random numbers organized in numerical order (product #) so the first 12 or 13 digits represent year, tranny, color, chassis and so on.
Any police officer can easily & quickly arrest you when he types in the VIN into his/her computer system.

In Illinois, it's a class 2 felony to attempt to misrepresent the VIN number in the manner you're describing. If the dash is replaced legitimately, and the VIN plate needs to be moved from one dash to another to preserve the correct vehicle identity, you need to notify the state in writing, and the change needs to be inspected afterward within 90 days by the state police. Interestingly though, I can't find any place in the Illinois code that says you have to have a dash in the first place, but lack of a normal dash would surely look like you're hiding something. I would imagine that the dash would be whatever is just inside the windshield, holding the gauges and controls.

The VIN is located in 12+ locations on the vehicle, using eiter metal plates or tamper-proof labels, so it won't be hard to catch if someone pays any attention to it at all. If there is any kind of discrepancy between one or more VIN labels, or between the VIN and the license plate registration, you will be arrested on the spot.
