Thumbs up Home brew injector cleaning

Geius Maniacal posted the question in anopther thread and I thought it would be better in it's own. I pulled this from another forum but never tried it. But I have some spare parts in the garage and I'm going to give it t try.

I made up an injector cleaning setup by taking an injector lead off of a scraped wiring harness (yeah, I know that doesn't help you much, right?) and wiring it to a momentary on type switch in series with a 9v battery lead. I got a cheap garden type pump sprayer and some fuel line that fits snuggly over the end of the injector. I fill the sprayer with injector cleaner, pump it up until I have a little bit of pressure on it, and then hit the switch for about 1-1.5 seconds at a time. You don't want to hold it open too long or you run the risk of burning the injector out. This will clean your injectors up nicely, and then just reseal them with a Rennbay kit, and put them back on the car. Don't forget to lube the seals and pintel caps with a bit of ATF first, before installing them.

For the faint at heart there is always witchhunter.com which a lot of guys on the Porsche forum use.

I heard amsoil is another good choice for injector cleaning.
What ever you choose run the tank real low then put the cleaner in before you fill up.

The auto parts store is right down the road from the gas station that I go to.So I pick up the injector cleaner add it to the tank then drive to the gas station. I think the reason for doing that is to get some in the fuel lines before diluting it with more gas. Not real sure on that though.

Cool

Add it with fresh oil so it has a chance to actually clean the engine.

Geius Maniacal if you read closer it tells you to use a vacuum line to suck/pour it into the intake tract.

Seafoam is great!

This setup may work for slightly dirty injectors. Ideally the filter should be removed from the inlet end of the injector and then reverse flush the injector. There is usually lots of crud & rust that builds in that area. Your method may break loose some of that stuff and it can get lodged down at the pintle.
Also, high concentrations of cleaners are hard on the internal seals and may cause them to fail sooner.
