1994 p/u- removing frt. rotors?

After fighting with the bolts for half of the day I finally got the front caliper assembly off the rotor of my 1994 Toyota pickup. I got an electric impact wrench to get the 5 bolts off the rotor.
However, after referring to my Chilton's manual (after the fact), I see that I am supposed to "remove the grease cap and the cotter pin and nut underneath it". Then I should note the "disc run-out". After installing the new rotor I am to "use a dial indicator to measure the disc run-out and match it to earlier."

So, my question is this. Does anyone have any advice on removing this grease cap? Apparently this is the only way to remove the rotor. Does the cap just pry off with a screwdriver? Or is it attached with an adhesive? And also, upon reassembling, do I use adhesive on cap or just pop it in?
Also, what about this disc "run-out". Any advice or help would be welcomed. I kind of thought that this was similar to other cars I have had in the past and was unaware of the difficulties of removing the rotor. Thanks in advance.

John

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/FSM.shtml

1)buy a used one off e-bay
2)some Toyota dealerships may give you one or sell it for $10-20 (used) as most Toyota dealerships don't repair many old Toyotas and no longer need the service manual
3)some public libraries sell their old books as they are not in demand any longer
4)some free buy & sell classified papers, websites and bulletin boards may have some used ones for sale
5)some junk yards may have one laying around
6)some Toyota specialty garages may have one laying around and no longer use it as the vehicle may be too old and those mechanics probably have so much experience that they could publish their own factory service manual with corrections and "real world repair tips"
7)if someone has the FSM maybe they could scan all of the pages and post it on a site for all of us to download or view.

Hello, I recently purhased a 94 pickup as well. I have just completely re-worked my front brakes and bearings and it was very easy. Chilton's s correct about removing the cap. You will have to remove that to get to the bolt that holds the whole assembly on. It does pop off easily with a screw driver and maybe a little tap with a hammer. Forget about checking the specs for the rotors, just replace them. They are like 16 bucks at auto zone. Mine were warped and rather than have them turned I just bought new ones at auto zone. While you have the hub off (this is what the rotor bolts to) I would recommend replacing the wheel bearings as well. These were only like 9 bucks each at auto zone. There is an inner and outer bearing and also a seal that you will need to replace on each side. The sleeve for the bearing is pressed into the hub and this the most difficult part of the job. Get a brass punch and carefully knock the sleeve out with a hammer. The brass will not damage the steel inside of the hub. You can easily bang the new sleeve with a large socket. Anyway, this whole job is cheap if you do it yourself. Skip the bearings if yours are in good shape still but go ahead and just get new rotors and brake pads since they are so cheap! good luck!

Thanks for the help guys. The manuals worked fine and after popping off the center cap I just waded thru the grease and took care of business. A little more involved than I had originally thought but thanks to the help, no problems and looking good. Thanks again.
